Coasters Musical Theatre is bringing the pink-powered hit Legally Blonde The Musical to Southward Theatre in Paraparaumu this spring, with performances running from the 2nd to the 11th of October.

This feel-good musical comedy is based on the blockbuster rom com starring Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a Gemini vegetarian and fashionable sorority queen who enrols at Harvard Law School to win back her bonehead ex-boyfriend, only to bend and snap towards empowerment, smashing stereotypes and discovering her own strength and tenacity along the way.

Directed by Jessica Clough, who previously helmed Coasters’ popular production of Mary Poppins in 2021, Legally Blonde The Musical introduces Lauren Loghry to Kapiti and Wellington audiences in a role she’s dreamed of playing since she was 13 years old.

“I’ve looked up to Elle Woods ever since I first watched the movie with my mum as a young girl”, Lauren delights. “Her positivity is infectious, and the way she approaches life – with kindness, optimism, and determination – is something I think we could all use more of. She leads with her heart, never compromises her values, and always exudes confidence, even in the toughest moments.”

Let’s not forget her iconic style, adds the actor, who’s been so inspired by Elle’s fashion over the years that many of her costumes for the show are actually pieces from her own wardrobe!

Suffice to say, playing Elle marks a full-circle moment for Lauren.

“What I didn’t expect was how much Elle would change me. Through her, I found the strength to leave a toxic relationship and the courage to stand up for who I truly am. She’s reminded me that I don't have to shrink myself to make others comfortable. That I can be strong and soft, ambitious and compassionate, feminine and powerful.”

With catchy songs, dazzling choreography, and, of course, plenty of pink, production manager Warrick Allan says the cast and crew are “excited to share this incredibly entertaining and inspiring show with our community”.

“Lauren brings wonderful energy to the role, and under Jess’ experienced direction, this promises to be another memorable production for Coasters.”

Snaps for Coasters!
