Classic cars take over Porirua by Sam Hollis

If you appreciate the purr of a V8, the smell of rubber, or simply have a need for speed, you can’t miss Petrolheads at Porirua. Car owners who have spent time and money lovingly restoring their classic vehicles will see their hard work pay off when thousands come to admire their efforts at the New Zealand Kennel Club Events Centre from 10am on the 18th of April.

Young or old, we can all appreciate the clean lines and engineering excellence of a classic vehicle. Petrolheads at Porirua has it all, from vintage cars and hot rods, street machines and trucks to Japanese imports, modern exotics, drag cars, and motorbikes. Something is guaranteed to make your jaw drop.

Petrolheads at Porirua is a great day out for the whole family. Along with exploring the show floor, you can check out trade stalls, grab a barista-made coffee, and feed up on burgers and fries provided by BurgerFuel. Kids under 12 can enter free, and they will be glad to hear the bouncy castle is back, plus they’ll have the chance to win a $100 Toyworld voucher in the Count the Balloons Competition.

The show is presented by the Western Bays Street Rodders, a Porirua-based car club, in conjunction with BurgerFuel. It has been running for 15 years, growing in scale annually. This year, up to 3000 people are expected to attend. Owners displaying their vehicles enter the running for awards, including the People’s Choice award, which has a $1000 prize attached.

Each Petrolheads at Porirua event raises funds for a chosen charity. This year’s show will support Wellington Free Ambulance.
