Bloody good time by Alessia Belsito-Riera
Something wicked this way comes on wings as dark as night and with fangs as sharp as knives. Dracula’s will rise from the St James Theatre mid-winter so if you have an appetite for a bloody good time then sink your teeth into Australia’s cult-favourite vaudevillian variety show.
Since its origins in a Melbourne laneway in 1980, Dracula’s has become a cultural phenomenon. The risqué burlesque-meets-comedy show, brought to life by Newman Entertainment, has kept more than five million attendees in suspense, surprise, and stitches over the 43 years it has been running.
Their sold-out debut tour of New Zealand in 2023 was just the appetiser, and Kiwis were ravenous for more. With the first two Wellington shows on the 11th and 12th of July almost completely devoured, two additional performances will be unleashed on the 10th and 12th of July.
Its return to Aotearoa sees the risqué, raucous, and ravenous show take a whole new form. Sanctuary is a wild, adults-only spectacle packed with jaw-dropping acrobatics, powerhouse vocals, and razor-sharp comedy featuring Dracula’s signature edge. Expect a high-voltage mash-up of music, mischief, and mayhem featuring fiery tributes to Guns N’ Roses, Elton John, and No Doubt, with an encore promised for those who are hungry for more.
“It’s a spectacle of seduction and silliness, with plenty of fangs, feathers, and flirting,” CEO Luke Newman says, adding that Sanctuary is “naughty, in your face, and pure energy.”
Don’t be left lurking in the dark – surrender to Dracula’s: Sanctuary, where blood is the elixir, but laughter is the best medicine.
